WINE & SPIRITS PIPING SYSTEMS
Your piping system needs to accommodate the sanitary requirements and product handling necessary to create award-winning bottles.
Alcohol production and processing is a highly refined process, and your piping system needs to be able to accommodate both the sanitary requirements and carefully controlled product handling necessary to create award-winning bottles. If your piping system doesn’t flow properly, it can bruise fruit, create blockages, and impair sanitation.
At Douglas Barwick, our piping systems are made with your needs in mind.
Wine and Spirits Piping Considerations
Properly handling wine, beer, and spirits as well as the grains, mash, and fruit components used to make them during the manufacturing and bottling process is critical to preserving the desired mouthfeel, tannin levels, and flavour. Excessive turbulence, poor sanitation and oxidation control, and of course any corrosion in your system, can be detrimental to the taste and sterility of your product. When we fabricate your piping systems, we take your concerns into account, including:
Winery and Distillery Pipe Materials
When it comes to brewing and distilling, you can’t beat stainless steel for reliability and longevity.
Pipe, fittings, and accessories made from 304L and 316L stainless steel are corrosion resistant, easy to clean and sterilize, and handle high temperatures well, which is critical during the brewing, distilling, and fermentation processes. 316L stainless steel is particularly good at handling highly acidic substances like wine.
Your glycol cooling systems are used for regulating temperature in high-load mashing operations, during fermentation, encouraging reflux and final product condensation, and proofing and storage prior to bottling. We usually produce 304L stainless steel pipe and fittings for this purpose, but we can fabricate these pipes from other alloys as well upon request.
Frequently Fabricated Sizes
We manufacture pipe ranging from ¾ inch NPS up to 96 inches in diameter, with fittings and accessories to match. For wineries and distilleries, we usually produce pipe and tubing for product transfer, water lines, fermentation piping, bottling lines, and storage tank connections. We manufacture light-wall Schedule 10S and heavy-wall spools (14 gauge to 0.500″ wall thickness), with custom sizing available to meet high-pressure or sanitary project specifications.
