Who Do We Hire?

Most of our employees retire with us, so when we hire, we hire long-term. Our policy of promoting within the company and our loyalty to our team, ensure we get that loyalty back. There are several employees within our workforce anticipating retirement in the next few years, and all of them have over 30 years with Douglas Barwick under their toolbelts.

We have a pipe shop, fitting shop, fabrication shop, maintenance shop, and a shipping and receiving department here at Douglas Barwick. That’s a lot of positions to fill. We hire welders, machinists, mechanics, millwrights, engineers, and draftsmen regularly, as well as apprentices in those trades. And of course, we have an incredible team of office staff that ensure everything runs smoothly.

Our Apprentices Learn from the Best

Douglas Barwick has history that dates back to 1945, and staff that are almost as experienced. When you work with us, you become part of a team that understands pipe and fitting fabrication down to their bones, and we often take on apprentices and new hires who want to train under true experts in their fields. And once they start, they usually stay. The average employee tenure at Douglas Barwick is just under two decades.

That makes our team an incredible mix of tradespeople just starting their careers and those who have worked with us for decades. Many of our employees choose to retire with us, leaving a legacy behind them in the work we did together and the next generation of Douglas Barwick, who learned from them.

OUR COMPANY CULTURE

We’re a great community.

At Douglas Barwick, we like the people we work with, which makes for a great community. And once you have a community, you have to take care of it.

Sometimes that means little things, like flowers or a goodie basket from us when you’re sick—because it’s nice to be remembered when you’re down. Sometimes that’s team-building activities because we work hard, but we also like to have fun. We host monthly BBQs in the warmer months and periodic pizza-and-pop lunches through the winter.

And of course, no one could forget our annual Christmas party on the first Friday of every December. We set up a great catered meal, prizes for all our employees, and a DJ and dancing. You also get one drink on us and a free cab ride home—not to mention the $50 gift cards to local businesses we like to give out at Christmas.

And when you’re ready to move on? Our retiring employees get a full day of snacks at work, a $200 gift card to kick off their retirement, and lunch out on us for them and a work buddy.
