CHEMICAL & PETROCHEMICAL PIPING

Delivering long-term reliability while meeting stringent quality and safety requirements.

Chemical and petrochemical facilities require piping systems capable of withstanding highly corrosive chemicals, elevated temperatures, high operating pressures, and continuous process demands. From chemical manufacturing and petrochemical processing to specialty chemical production and bulk storage terminals, piping must deliver long-term reliability while meeting stringent quality and safety requirements.

Chemical and Petrochemical Piping Considerations

We manufacture welded pipe, fittings, fabricated pipe spools, and custom assemblies for chemical and petrochemical facilities. Every system is fabricated to meet project specifications while addressing critical operating requirements such as:

  • Resistance to severe corrosion and chemical attack,
  • Compatibility with acids, solvents, and aggressive process chemicals,
  • Pressure and temperature cycling,
  • Full material traceability and quality assurance documentation, and
  • Radiography and hydrotesting requirements.

We also fabricate custom piping spools, which are assembled in our shop and shipped to you for easy installation. This is particularly helpful for our clients in remote locations or with limited access to the equipment and expertise necessary for on-site assembly.

Chemical and Petrochemical Pipe Materials

Material selection is critical in chemical processing, where corrosion resistance and mechanical performance directly affect system reliability and longevity.

316L stainless steel is widely used for process piping exposed to corrosive chemicals, offering excellent weldability and durability for most environments. For applications requiring superior resistance to aggressive chemical attack, 317L stainless steel provides greater resistance to pitting and corrosion than 316L, particularly in environments containing chlorides and acidic media.

For more demanding services involving high chlorides or severe corrosion, AL-6XN® delivers exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion while maintaining excellent mechanical properties. We also fabricate piping in Duplex, Super Duplex, Hastelloy®, and Inconel® 625 for cases where exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and structural integrity are required in extreme environments, including elevated temperatures.

And of course, if your system has unique needs, we can custom fabricate your pipe, fittings, and accessories from a wide array of specialty alloys.

Common Products

We manufacture a wide range of piping products for chemical and petrochemical facilities, including:

  • ASTM A312 stainless steel pipe
  • ASTM A358 electric fusion welded pipe
  • ASTM A403 WP-W/WX stainless steel fittings
  • Large-diameter welded pipe
  • Specialty alloy, fabricated pipe spools
  • Custom-welded process piping assemblies

Frequently Fabricated Sizes

At Douglas Barwick, we manufacture pipe ranging from ¾ inch NPS up to 96 inches in diameter, with fittings and accessories to match. Chemical and petrochemical facilities like yours commonly require everything from small-bore process piping and chemical injection lines to large-diameter transfer piping, reactor systems, and storage terminal infrastructure.

Common wall thicknesses include 14 gauge (0.083″) to 0.500″. Heavier walls, manufactured to meet project-specific pressure, temperature, and process requirements, can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
