Description

Douglas Barwick is hiring a full-time Controller in Brockville, Ontario to oversee the financial and accounting operations of our manufacturing facility.

The Controller reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for producing financial reports, maintaining accounting records and controls, managing the accounting team, and providing strategic financial guidance to the leadership team. This position offers an annual salary of $110,000.

As such, we require all candidates to have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration as well as at least five years of experience in accounting or finance, showing progressive responsibility. Strong knowledge of manufacturing accounting and the ability to become and remain a subject matter expert in all aspects of accounting and finance are critical. We also consider experience with a manufacturing-related ERP to be an asset, as well as prior experience with Epicor Kinetic.

There is a managerial aspect to this position that necessitates excellent interpersonal communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to resolve conflict. Excellent oral and written English communication skills are also a requirement.

Key duties for this role include overseeing payroll processing for the hourly employees to ensure accuracy and compliance with the applicable regulations, as well as analyzing and summarizing financial data and providing strategic recommendations. Furthermore, the Controller is responsible for the chart of accounts, keeps a system of controls and best practices, and ensures the accurate and timely recording and analysis of revenues and expenses. This role is also responsible for managing various provincial and federal government reporting requirements and input tax filings and overseeing all physical inventory counts and reconciliations.

Duties

  • Oversee the completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient financial reporting.
  • Oversee payroll processing for hourly employees and ensure both accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Analyze and summarize financial data and provide strategic recommendations for optimizing resource utilization, operational efficiency, and process improvements.
  • Maintain responsibility for the chart of accounts and ensure accurate recording of financial data in the P&L and Balance Sheet in accordance with ASPE guidelines.
  • Maintain a system of controls and best practices as they relate to the accounting and finance function.
  • Oversee bank reconciliations, the accounts payable process, vendor payment controls, accounts receivable management, cash application, and credit & collections with an emphasis on aged invoices and credit limit monitoring.
  • Review and analyze manufacturing costs, overhead, and G&A expenses and offer recommendations for cost management strategies and overhead absorption rates.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording and analysis of revenues and expenses in line with financial reporting standards.
  • Manage various provincial and federal government reporting requirements and input tax filings.
  • Oversee all physical inventory counts and reconciliations.
  • Use the utmost of discretion in dealing with confidential company and customer information.
  • Perform other tasks on an ad hoc basis.

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration.
  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience with a manufacturing-related ERP is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills coupled with demonstrated ability to resolve challenges with Finance department members and non-Finance leaders.
  • Strong manufacturing accounting knowledge and expertise in the Microsoft Suite (Office 365, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Prior experience with Epicor Kinetic is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and be a subject matter expert in all aspects of accounting and finance.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask, prioritize jobs, and be highly organized.
  • Strong comprehension and analytical skills.

Education

The Controller must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration. Furthermore, we consider experience and skill to be a top priority for this position.
